Leah Allardyce, I am a student of BA Fashion Media at the renowned institution of Lisof, I have always been passionate about preserving our planet for future generations as well as fashion. After a few years of studying I realized that the philosophy of my two passions actually clashed, as a general rule fashion is all about the new and disposable consumerism for the bottom line which in fact is not aligned with the sustainability of the planet. When SA was locked down due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the almost overnight need for South African’s to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution, I realized that this was exactly the perfect opportunity to align my two passions. Who needed fashion more than that that could be seen on the virtual platforms ? and indeed could the average South African afford new fashions when they were not earning as before or even having to dress as before. All they needed was to be found at home and what could be seen on Zoom or the other virtual platforms. In this eureka moment Above Keyboard Dressing was born. My brand fulfils this function by recycling and repurposing what would usually simply be thrown out into the newly desirable items. I sell thrift, vintage as well as consignment pieces at affordable prices. This is a win win scenario as it allows for the discerning dresser to have fashion items that are new to them, at an affordable price and simultaneously keeping the landfills from growing bigger by the day.
