Hawa Sallah, is a native of Dongoro ba Village, a small farming community in eastern region of the Gambia. As a child, Hawa growing up in a village, she witnessed first hand, the life challenges of women farmers to meet their basic needs despite working so hard in the field. One of the major challenges of these women were lack of market and little value added in their products. As way to address these challenges, and put women in center-stage of agribusiness, in 2019. Hawa started the JAMWELI FOODS brand which engage women in marketing, branding and the distribution of agriculture food products. In this way, these women sell their products for profit, create jobs or themselves while promoting food security, reducing post-harvest loss and protecting the environment through climate-smart agriculture.
